My Children are Gifted

How else to you explain their ability to start a fight when then is no actual cause for bickering?

Two of them used to fight over the baby doll stroller, so I bought a second one. Rookie mistake. All that did was provide two strollers to fight over.

I really get grumpy when the fighting begins at the start of the day. For some reason, waking up to children talking snottily to one another just gets my goat.

Recently, we had an episode over breakfast cereal. One child was actually producing real tears over the injustice that a sibling had selfishly finished off a box of cereal. Shouting commenced. I intervened, "Are you kidding me? You are fighting over cereal?"

I told the child to go to the pantry and get another box. You see, we have no shortage of cereal in our house. Here's a quick pic of the cereal section of our pantry:

And here's one of the longer-term storage section of our pantry:

The box the kids were fighting over was Frosted Flakes. Frosted Flakes is the entire upper shelf in the photo--all those blue boxes!

Writing this, I am thinking that I should have made the crying whiner go in the pantry and count the boxes of cereal as a punishment for acting so ridiculously, but I didn't think of it at the time.

But, do you see what I mean? My kids are gifted. They can truly make a fight out of anything!

Wow. I hope they never go into politics.

Kudos on the mega food-storage, though. Very impressive.

I know the feeling about the early morning battles...sometimes I make them go to their room and restart their day...this probably works more for my psyche than theirs.

ha! i made that rookie mistake once too - getting two thomases. they could STILL tell them apart, even though they were identical and one was STILL better than the other! :) i LOVE the cereal fight, though. that's priceless.

and for some reason i LOVE caps today. :)

I'm actually shocked and saddened that apparently your passion for cereal doesn't run as deep as it should.

Well I am so glad to know it is not just me. My kids can fight with a lamp post. It is so upsetting. I have a very hard time not yelling and getting involved. It is nuts. I send mine to their rooms to stop the fighting and they are teenagers now.

Maybe it's genetic. Although the kids didn't fight that much. I always thought it was because we didn't have a television - because whenever we did have one the fighting started. We got rid of it, and it stopped. Maybe it's the electrons.

Anyway I love your food storage! Very colorful. I think you've hit all the colors.

My kids are gifted in a similar manner. It is maddening. I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I feel like my head is going to explode right of my body.

I am right with you on the annoyance of early morning fighting - it's so nerve grating! How funny about the frosted flake incident. You are definitely prepared in the cereal department - good job on your food storage!!

That's an awesome cereal shelf. My children are gifted that way. My favorite is when they beg me for oatmeal, and then say they don't want oatmeal, and then scream about it when I say they have to eat it anyway. Awesome. That HAD to be pre-planning.

If I stocked that much sugared cereal in our house my kids would eat it in a week and gain 20 lbs each...no lie. I can only buy a certain amount per week and then once it's gone (we're talking hours here) I don't buy more until the next week...and my kids have the same abilities!

Sibling rivalry seriously puts me into a panic...I was the youngest of 3, spaced far apart...I have NO experience with this! Have any words of wisdom?

Love the cereal stash BTW...
