Okay, the more I run errands right now, the more stressed I feel. Halloween is everywhere! There are pumpkins and costumes every place I turn. This is totally stressing me out because I don't know what my family is going to be for Halloween this year. It's late September and I have no clue what magic I will create to please my kids this year.
Usually, by now we at least have a couple of choices we're mulling over. This year, we've got zip. Nada. Nil. I really never thought I'd be in this situation. When Maia was a baby and we dressed up as Fred, Wilma and Pebbles I never thought I'd still be doing a family theme nine years later. I thought by now my kids would want to do their own things. Boy, did I think wrong.
Over the years we've done the Flintstones; the Crocodile Hunter, Terri, their dog & a croc; Veggie Tales; Peter Pan, etc; Alice in Wonderland, etc; the Incredibles; and High School Musical. What's left that has meaning to our little family and that will please all six of us? I'm sure we'll think of something. Never fear--we won't be going to the ward party naked.

well, it would be easier to make your costumes - and it might get you out of your callings, too. :) it wouldn't be a ward halloween party without figuring out the hunter family theme!
That's it! You could go as Adam & Eve! Your kids could be any one of their children. You'd all wear loin cloths, fig leaves, whatever. It would totally cut down on sewing time. Or do Hairspray. I'd love to see Michael in a hot pink, sparkly pink dress.
Didn't Michael once have the idea of going as the Standard Works? Bible, Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, Doctrine and Covenants, maybe a hymnal and Proclamation? Great for the Ward Party, but you might have to do a lot of explaining while trick-or-treating. Of course, you could always hand out Pass along cards!:)
Yeah, ummmm, think of something, or maybe someone else will win a costume contest this year.
I was thinking of being Neil and Lauren in the "Night of the Dancing Flame" song, but only like 3 people would know who that was. Man, just stepping it up one year has now raised expectations! (But Jim and Pam are hard to beat.)
What a great tradition. We only did it once. We did the Wizard of Oz. I was the Wicked Witch (not type casting!) and Daniel was my monkey I carried. Kara was Dorothy and Erika the Good Witch. Dave was a Scarecrow and James was a munchkin..or something. You'll think of something fun, I know.
You guys were my inspiration to try a family Halloween theme! I loved your Incredibles outfits! The best idea I had was Monster's Inc in '05 if you go to my blog I have a picture up of that. Last year Jaide was a Spy Kid and we were a family of spies although nobody really got it. This year I think I'm just going to be a big pregnant lady.
Yes! Hairspray! Though having Michael in drag could raise a few eyebrows:)
You need to come to England, no stress, no halloween
I think you should do the sound of music !!!!
Ok, I've got several ideas, but bear in mind that I have a strange sense of humor!
1. Edward and Bella and four little newborn vampires
2. The cast of Wicked. Green skin for you and all. Or you could be Glinda and enter the ward party in a bubble. VERY cool.
3. Hester Prynne for you, complete with an A, and a priest costume for your Michael. White outfits for your children, with "Pearl" nametags for all girls. Don't know about Mason. We tried this when Grace was an infant. I really liked the reactions at the ward party, but I'm snarky like that. Sadly, a lot of people didn't even get it.
Wow, so that's a Halloween theme with 6 parts to come up with... Really I just can't wait to see what you come up with!! Good luck!!
Hmmm.... We were thinking about veggie tales this year, but I am going to convince my kids to do something a little easier... I hope. We shall see if they let me (:
I think Tracy's idea is great! Adam and Eve!! Very funny. You could borrow our flower garden outfits... I'm sure Mason would love that!
Wow, those are a lot of great ideas! Here's an easy one--the Brady bunch! Of course, I don't know what you'd do for Peter and Bobby (or Peter and Greg, or Greg and Bobby), but it would be fun with all those permed wigs and teaching Marlee to say "Marsha Marsha Marsha!"
Hmm, I see I've missed a lot in the past few years visiting my sister's over Halloween. Not doing that this year, so watch out missie, you may have competition in the costume contest!
I have always been impressed by families that do Halloween together. I know you'll think of something good :)
Yeah, no suggestions, just awaiting the decision. good luck!
