How Old Do I Look? --Wait, don't answer that!

I had a birthday. Well, technically, I've had thirty-five of them now. That's a more recent development, that thirty-fifth birthday.

My Michael and the kids made me this cake in my new Bundt pan. I also got the power sander I've been wanting!

I spent the day with my little family. In the morning, I took Teensy to a birthday party. It was at the roller rink. Did you know those are still around? I figured it out and I think the last time I went skating was when I was 20 years old! Even though my dear friend gave me this advice/warning when she heard how I was spending my morning: "Don't break something! You're not as young as you once were!" I still felt young and spry out there on my skates.

On the floor, I skated forward and backward (those were the only tricks I had ever known), so I was pleased with that. And while I giggled with my five year-old whist doing the chicken dance on roller skates, I had this thought:
You haven't lived until you've chicken danced on roller skates with a five year-old. It was a genuinely enjoyable morning.

With just one small dark mark upon it. During eat-the-cake time, I was talking to another mother and mentioned that it was also my birthday. Her immediate response was, "Oh, are you forty?"

Excuse me? Who says that? I think that even if I were forty I would have been caught off-guard.

I was a little surprised and said, "No, no I'm not. I'm just barely 35. Today." I wasn't offended. Just surprised. I don't think that is a typical response to someone saying that it's her birthday. I think the typical response is, "Oh, it is? Happy Birthday!" but maybe that's just me.

First of all, I can't believe that you wanted a power sander. I guess you can come do a project at my house now. And secondly, you don't look 40. That botox has done wonders for you :)

La Multi Ani! And you don't even look 35 let alone 40!! How weird :)

LOL!! How Rude! Who says that? Too weird!

Weird!

When did I get older than you? I will turn 36 this year. See--You're still young!

Happy Birthday! Good for your family for making you a cake! (I have to make my own if I want one!)

Power sander?? Enjoy!

Are you forty??!? What kind of question is that?!?! And you don't look 35, let alone 40! :) Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Mendy! (...and you don't even look like you'd be 30, let alone 35!)

Happy happy birthday Mendy!! Enjoy that power sander!! And I would completely forget that 40 comment - you don't look a day over 29!!:)

Something weird just happened with my comment, so this might be a duplicate...

You keep getting younger with every comment on here. I supposed you want me to tell you we could be 26 year old fraternal twins?

What was she talking about, you and I could be 26 year old fraternal twins!

And for the record, I don't even think our 40 year old sister looks 40. Some people are genuinly tactless.

I have to assume she heard something wrong along the way because the comment seems so out of left field. Or she's just a horrible human being.

At least she didn't ask you if you were pregnant! Maybe she just calculated from the fact that you have a five year old that you must be 40. You know, people having fewer kids, starting late after their careers... well still pretty lame. Happy birthday! You look fabulous!

I am very impressed that you went skating BTW.

What? I thought you were old enough to be my mother. You are only 35? :) Happy belated bday. The only reason someone thought you were older was because you have so many children. Surely you must be at least 40, right? While an odd way to respond when you find out it is someone's birthday, just think what a compliment it would be to someone who was turning, say 50.

What the weird?? That's crazy times. (but, hmm, I thought you WERE turning 40 . . . ) HA! Just kidding. You look way young. Don't you fret.

Happy Birthday Mendy! Sometimes I am amazed at the things people say. I too am with Tracy on the power sander, that is just funny! Hope you had a good birthday!

Happy Birthday! What a great way to spend the day. Well, minus the very rude 40 question. You do NOT look 40 at all. You don't even look 35, more like 25.

Wow ! I thought you'd gone past forty a while ago????: ) you look good tho

I did it again. I missed your b-day. How is this possible. You must not have it posted on facebook. Because that is my birthday reminder. I will see your 35 in a few weeks. And I think 35 is a perfect age.

I have a friend that celebrates the anniversary of her thirtieth birthday so this year was the 15th anniversary of her thirtieth birthday. Anyway, just know I have seen you and you look like a teenager yourself so apparently that lady was having a low self-esteem day she wanted to pull everyone else into.

Too funny! Maybe she meant to say something else, but that just sort of slipped out...

I am always afraid to ask if people are pregnant, even if it's so obvious and they're 9 months along, I STILL won't ask for fear that maybe they aren't!

Happy Birthday! Mendy you are one hip momma and always will be. My theory is maybe she was a little jealous because you were skating circles around her. Or maybe she fell down really hard and knocked something loose-like her tact..Anyway you look fantastic.
