Dear IOC

Dear International Olympic Committee,

First, let me tell you I am quite enamored with your little operation. I look forward to it every two years and am so pleased to be able to feed my addiction for watching international competition.

I also want to
thank NBC (A.K.A. the "dealer" to my Olympics addiction), for its extensive coverage of the Summer Olympics. I do love them so and quite enjoy watching all the swimming, diving, cycling and, of course, the gymnastics! Each evening I head straight to the TV, telling my beloved spouse, Michael, that I have an important commitment; my country needs me. I am there each evening to cheer for all our hard-working athletes without fail.

I do, however, have one problem. I am not sure how much longer I can watch the nightly "prime time" coverage. You see, I am only human and, therefore, actually require a certain thing called sleep. Last night's coverage didn't end until after 12:30 a.m. and this morning my children were up and fighting (complete with screams the likes of which usually only accompany limbs being ripped off of torsos) before 7:00 a.m. I'm just not as young as I once was and this rigorous schedule is certainly taking its toll.

Would it really be too much to ask to have all the really cool events take place at a time that would be, say, in real prime time on the East Coast of the good ole US of A?

What? This isn't about me? Are you sure? Because I feel like an important part of the Olympic Team. I am the USA's biggest cheerleader! But, I guess if it's more important for the athletes to have their rest before say, breaking world records, than it is for me to be able to devoutly sit on my couch without nodding off, I suppose I will have to make do. I'm just upset I didn't think to order DVR or TiVo or the like in time for the games. That really would have been helpful!

Respectfully Submitted,

Mendy Hunter, Chronically Fatigued Olympic Addict

Dear Mrs. Hunter,
Quit complaining and get DVR, then I won't have to hear you complain when I interrupt a show because you can't pause your program -- so annoying. Let your kids watch tv in the morning instead of chores, that will cut down on the fighting and you can sleep in. Enjoy your Olympics.

I am feeling the same way. Did you just stand up and yell when the Men's US relay team beat the French? That was very exciting. The bronze for the gymnastics team was very exciting as well.

I do have DVR, but I find myself staying up anyway to watch it. Just too exciting.

Oh yes, the Olympics is fun. And I am off to join my husband on the couch.

No you see the real problem is that I fell asleep on the couch(John not being home)watching the "prime time" stuff. only to awake at 3 am and shuffle up to bed the whole time thinking "Oh no! the field hockey game starts at 6 am" Alas, I only caught the last 50 seconds of that one. I don't have DVR either.

You are sooo funny! I don't have tv at all...so I rely on cnn.com :) Enjoy them!!! They are great!

Ha ha! I'm laughing with you and Tracy. I know someone out here who wakes up at 3 a.m. to see the British athletes compete. I'm completely missing it all -- darn TVless house! (I'd get one right now if I didn't have to buy a $300 viewing license.)

Tracy is right. You have no one to blame but yourself. TiVo is not a new invention. You are not Amish or on food stamps. Invest in your life, invest in your happiness, invest in your family: invest in TiVO!

First of all, how do you have 2 friends who don't have TV? (no offence tv-less friends but, come on!) Second of all, Tracy is hilarious. Third of all, Amber should be hired as the new head of marketing for Tivo. Fourth of all, how about Bella Caroli (sp-?) last night totally saying the Chinese are lying about their girls' ages. Fifth of all, why have you stopped commenting on my blog, rude.

Mendy, this post could have been written by me. I am exhausted for the third day in a row by my 12:00 bedtime. Make it stop! But while I do have a TiVo, I also get the paper, and if I don't watch it until a godly hour the next day, my paper's headlines give away the result! This is not ok with me....
I figure it's like having a newborn. This too shall pass, in about 13 days, I think.

We are without a DVR right now too so I'm completely sleep deprived also!! Oh, but it was very worth it to see Michael Phelps get his 11th gold last night!! So cool! And I was biting my nails all during the womens gymnastics... The olympics are so exciting!! Hope you get a nap today!!:)

For sure! In fact it's 11:57 right now and the men's all around is on. :) We're a bunch of crazies here too. U.S.A!!

Also, can I mention that some of these prime time commercials are making me sick! I keep having to mute it so Sheely can't hear!! I guess the DVR would fix that too...

I'm sorry for your sleep problems. I prescribe Tivo. It is helping me tremendously.

But seriously, it is rude that they put them on so late. Even if they started at 4, it would be better.

Oh hush we're five hours ahead of you so it's impossable for us aged Brits to see it live anyway

I think I have watched more of the olympics this year than ever before. I even fell asleep watching them last night, I can't stop watching the swimming and volleyball. Today I even watching fencing.....whats wrong with me?!

How cute Maia has a blog. I am totally going back to read it all the time.

I have tivo and Sara Nuss and I were just talking today about how exhausted we were from staying up every night to watch Michael Phelps race. You just have to watch some things live! I am glad his swimming is over so I can get some sleep. The other stuff I can watch via tivo.

Wow, Mendy! When you talk, people listen! I was just watching the Olympics (of course), and Bob Costas was talking about you! That is he was talking about all the sleep deprived people who were staying up late watching the Games. He did provide some Olympic Viewer tips that I will pass along to you.

1. Stay hydrated
2. Tell yourself you only need four hours of sleep - really
3. Wear sunglasses to hide red eyes
4. Crank up your ipod and listen to anything Michael Phelps does (although why he would think you have an ipod when you don't have a dvr is beyond me)
5. Skip work ( you're never going to see an olympics like this again anyway)

So there you go! Thanks to you and your letter, we now have some helpful advice from none other than Bob Costas. Like I say, when you talk, people listen!

You slay me. I have no tivo either - but I was lucky enough to be on CA time for most of the exciting swimming :)

Ha! I highly recommend having a newborn during the Olympics. That way you are sure to not be sleeping and can watch as much Olympic coverage that you want! Even the events that are on at 3am. Though Bob Costas does tend to make me a little cranky after hour four of watching...

I HEAR YOU!! i'm almost relieved the olympics are over and i can get some sleep again!
